Group Jazz Improvisation Demo Class

New to jazz improv, or not sure which level is the best fit for you? Drop in for free to one (or both!) of the first sessions of Intro to Jazz Improvisation or Jazz Improv 2: Melody & Phrasing. Introduction to Jazz Improvisation (Thursdays, 6-7 pm) is designed for anyone with a basic knowledge of chords and scales and is open to any instrument. Together we’ll explore the basics of improvisation, focusing on three areas: the blues scale, the chromatic scale, and three note chords called triads. Jazz Improv 2: Melody & Phrasing (Thursdays, 7:15-8:15 pm) focuses on the concept of phrasing: how to “carve out a line” and create a cohesive, melodic statement. The first class is an open house – interested students are invited to come try it out to decide if they want to enroll.
